Women’s Basketball rolls past Columbia (SC) 84-57
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (January 31, 2023) – Milligan University women’s basketball used a stellar team performance Tuesday night to defeat Columbia College 84-57.
Milligan, Tenn. (January 31, 2023) – Milligan University women's basketball used a stellar team performance Tuesday night to defeat Columbia College 84-57.
Milligan improves its record to 17-5 on the year and moves to 15-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchups. Columbia (SC) slides to 6-14 overall and 5-13 in AAC games. The Buffs close out the month of January with a record of 8-1. They also remain in sole possession of second place in conference standings.
Milligan pulled out to a quick 4-0 lead within the opening minute of the game. This lead was extended to 10-4 after Stacia Wilson made a slew of layups, giving her the teams' first 10 points. The Buffs quickly found their rhythm late in the quarter and went into the break with a 28-11 lead.
Milligan was firing on all cylinders as it walked into the half with a 51-21 lead. The Buffs shot an impressive 63 percent from the floor, 75 percent from the charity stripe, and tallied 30 points come from their bench.
Thanks to a flurry of three pointers the Koalas were able outscore the Buffs 18-13 in the third quarter and cut the margin to 62-39. However, the deficit going into the final period of play was 64-39.
The Buffs walked away with a 84-57 victory.
Five players reached double-figures for Milligan. Jaycie Jenkins led the way with 17 points, Wilson totaled 14 points, Semaj Clark reach 11 points, and Lauren Longmire and Emma Harig both put up 10 points. The Buffs forced 13 turnovers and scored 19 points from them. The also outscored the Koalas 53-4 in bench points.
Milligan begins the month of February on the road as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina to take on Columbia International University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
