Women’s Basketball earns 62-49 victory at Brenau
GAINESVILLE, Ga. (January 7, 2023) – The Milligan University women’s basketball team turned a two-point contest at the half into a 62-49 victory at Brenau on Saturday afternoon.
GAINESVILLE, Ga. (January 7, 2023) – The Milligan University women's basketball team turned a two-point contest at the half into a 62-49 victory at Brenau on Saturday afternoon.
Milligan moved to 12-4 on the season with a 10-2 record in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) league play. Brenau falls to 3-11, 2-11 AAC.
Milligan owned a 31-29 halftime lead. The Tigers tied the game at 31 and 33 in the first four minutes of the third quarter. Lauren Longmire, Kristy Galea and Emma Harig each scored in a six-point Buffs' spurt to take a 39-33 edge. After Brenau worked back within one possession, Madi Runnels, Harig and Longmire scored the final six points of the quarter to take a 45-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
Milligan made 11 free throws in the fourth quarter with Galea shooting six-of-six from the charity stripe to clinch the 13-point win.
Galea led the way for Milligan with 15 points and six rebounds. Harig added nine points. Longmire notched eight points and eight rebounds. Stacia Wilson had eight points.
Neither team shot the ball efficiently as the Buffs shot 33.3 percent from the field and held Bernau to 22.6 percent. The teams combined to shoot five-of-31 from deep.
The Buffs ride a three-game win streak into a rematch of last winter's AAC championships game against Reinhardt at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
