Hot start powers Women’s Basketball to first win
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (November 5, 2022) – The Milligan University women’s basketball team racked up 48 points in the first half on their way to their first win of the season, a 69-58 triumph over Thomas at the Jimmy Faulkner Classic.

The Buffs rise to 1-2 on the year while Thomas falls to 0-4.
Milligan shot 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) from the field, seven-of-14 from three and 13-of-13 from the foul line in the first half. The Buffs led by 19 (47-28) at the half. Milligan's largest lead of the game came a minute into the third quarter (50-30) and the Buffs held off the Night Hawks to pick up the 11-point victory.
In the fourth quarter Thomas got back within seven (62-55) with under four minutes to play but Stacia Wilson scored the next trip down the floor to keep the Night Hawks from getting back within two possessions and the Buffs held on to collect the win.
Lauren Longmire filled the stat sheet with 19 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in 36 minutes. Wilson posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Kristy Galea connected on three three-pointers for nine points. Kayla Romines had eight points and three assists.
The Buffs won the rebounding battle 42-36 and held Thomas to 29.7 percent shooting and no three-pointers. Milligan shot 41.7 percent from the floor and knocked down eight-of-24 threes.
The Buffs open Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday against CIU in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse at 5:00 p.m.
