Jaycie Jenkins collects Academic All-America® honors
AUSTIN, Texas (March 16, 2022) – Milligan University sophomore Jaycie Jenkins turned in an outstanding 2021-22 season on the court and in the classroom as the forward earned a spot on the NAIA Women's Basketball Academic All-America® Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.
AUSTIN, Texas (March 16, 2022) – Milligan University sophomore Jaycie Jenkins turned in an outstanding 2021-22 season on the court and in the classroom as the forward earned a spot on the NAIA Women's Basketball Academic All-America® Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.
Jenkins becomes the 10th CoSIDA Academic All-American in school history and the first women's basketball player to receive the honor. She was one of 11 women's basketball players in the NAIA to earn Academic All-America status and the only sophomore honored.
One of the top players in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC), Jenkins was an All-AAC First Team selection, AAC All-Defensive Team and AAC All-Tournament Team selection in 2021-22. Jenkins was the AAC's leading scorer this winter and ranked fifth in the nation at 21.7 point per game. She was the conference's third-leading rebounder (9.1) and was second in the AAC in offensive rebounds (84) and free throws made (152).
Jenkins recorded 13 double-doubles, 16 20-point games and four 30-point outings with a high of 36 points. She scored her 1,000th career point as a Buff in her 51st game, an AAC Tournament victory over St. Andrews.
In the classroom, Jenkins is a child and youth development major and owns a 3.98 cumulative grade point average.
Jenkins helped the Buffs to a 25-8 record and runner-up finish in the AAC regular season standings and in the AAC Tournament. Milligan posted its highest conference win percentage as a member of the AAC (.917) as the Buffs were 22-2 against league opponents.
CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. The Academic All-America® program is comprised of divisional teams for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
