Jaycie Jenkins named First Team Academic All-District® by CoSIDA
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 17, 2022) – Milligan University sophomore Jaycie Jenkins was named to the 2021-22 NAIA Academic All-District® Women’s Basketball First Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 17, 2022) – Milligan University sophomore Jaycie Jenkins was named to the 2021-22 NAIA Academic All-District® Women's Basketball First Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon.
Jenkins was one of eight players to earn Academic All-District status from District 2, which is made up of NAIA institutions in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
Jenkins is a standout forward on Milligan's women's basketball team and holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a child & youth development major.
On the court, Jenkins leads the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) and ranks No. 5 in the NAIA in scoring at 22.1 points per game. She's the third-leading rebounder in the AAC at 9.3 boards per game.
A prolific free throw shooter, Jenkins is No. 10 in the NAIA with 138 free throw makes and shoots 82.1 percent from the charity stripe, the sixth-best percentage in the AAC. She has notched 11 double-doubles, 14 20-point outings and four 30-point games this winter.
The Buffs have enjoyed a breakout season in 2021-22 as Milligan owns a 21-7 record and 21-2 AAC mark heading into the final game of the season on Saturday. The Buffs have secured the No. 2 seed in next week's AAC tournament and with a win on Saturday at Johnson (Tenn.), Milligan would secure its highest conference win percentage as a member of the AAC.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on March 16. To be eligible for the award, voted on by Sports Information Directors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic and academic credentials.
