Women’s Basketball rolls to fifth-straight win
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 12, 2022) – The Milligan University women’s basketball team scored the first 16 points and earned an 83-75 wire-to-wire victory over Montreat in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

Milligan picks up its fifth-straight win and 10th victory in the last 11 outings. The Buffs rise to 18-7 on the season and 18-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Montreat falls to 11-16, 8-13 AAC.
Halie Padgett scored the first eight points of the game as the Buffs outscored Montreat 16-0 over the first 5:24 of the contest. Milligan outscored the Cavaliers 23-7 in the first quarter as the Buffs limited Montreat to three-of-21 shooting (14.3 percent).
Threes from Kayla Romines, Lauren Longmire, and Jaycie Jenkins helped extend Milligan's lead to its largest of the day at 24 points (40-16) with 6:15 to play in the second quarter. At one point late in the second quarter, Padgett scored nine-consecutive points for the Buffs. At halftime, Milligan led 53-35 and Padgett already recorded 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting with seven rebounds.
The Buffs' maintained a 69-52 lead after the third quarter. Montreat shaved its deficit to single digits in the final minutes of the fourth quarter but ran out of time as the Buffs' held on to win 83-75.
Padgett finished with 31 points on 13-of-17 shooting and 10 rebounds. Jenkins had 17 points, six rebounds and three assists. Longmire recorded 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Milligan shot 50.8 percent for the game and outrebounded Montreat 43-34.
The Buffs host St. Andrews tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
