Women’s Basketball moves to 4-0 in AAC play with 79-52 win over Brenau
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (November 13, 2021) – The Milligan University women’s basketball team defeated the Brenau University Tigers 79-52 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup Saturday afternoon. It was the Buffs’ fourth-straight win to begin AAC play.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (November 13, 2021) – The Milligan University women's basketball team defeated the Brenau University Tigers 79-52 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup Saturday afternoon. It was the Buffs' fourth-straight win to begin AAC play.
After today's victory, Milligan adds to the win column with an overall record of 4-3 (4-0 AAC) while Brenau drops to 2-2 (1-2 AAC) on the season.
The Buffs came ready to play as they jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead behind eight points from sophomore forward Jaycie Jenkins. The Tigers pulled within five after the Buffs hot start but Milligan closed the quarter on a 20-2 run to take a 30-7 lead after the first quarter.
The Buffalo defense held Brenau to 11 points in the second quarter on 25 percent shooting from the field and 0 for 3 from behind the arc. Milligan forced six turnovers from the Tiger offense and cruised to a 48-18 lead going into halftime.
Halie Padgett put together a solid offensive performance in the third quarter scoring eight points while going 4-4 from the free throw line. Padgett's final stat line on the day was a season-high 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Buffs shot 89 percent from the free throw line as a team going 16 of 18 for the game. Despite a tough three-for-15 from 3-point range, Milligan was shot 47 percent from the field going 30-64 en-route to a 79-52 win.
Jenkins led the Buffs in both points and rebounds on the day scoring 27 points to go along with 12 boards, seven of which came on the offensive glass.
In total, 11 different players scored for Milligan in the win. Stacia Wilson had eight points and Lauren Longmire logged eight points and five rebounds apiece.
The Buffs will return to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse Wednesday evening at 5:30 in a matchup with 4-1 (3-0 AAC) Tennessee Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
