Buffs win handily over Johnson in home-opener
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (November 9, 2021) – The Milligan University women’s basketball team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent Johnson (Tenn.) Royals 82-64 in the home opener Tuesday evening at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

The Buffs move to 2-3 (2-0 AAC) on the season while the Royals fall to 0-3 (0-2 AAC).
Milligan guard Lily Griffith gave the Buffs the upperhand in the first quarter knocking down two three point shots for six points. As a team, Milligan shot 58% going 11-19 from the floor compared to just 40% for the Royals, who were outscored 27-18.
The second quarter saw the Buffs go up by as many as 12 behind six points from Kayla Romines. Johnson trimmed the Buffalo lead down to eight going into halftime after a layup and a three point shot made it 46-38.
Milligan began the second half jumping out to an 11-2 run. Kristy Galea and Stacia Wilson were the high-point scorers for the Buffs in the third quarter each making two field goals apiece for four points and a combined shooting percentage of 80%.
Jaycie Jenkins put the game on ice for Milligan with ten fourth quarter points to go along with a block and two steals. Jenkins finished the night with 22 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
Lauren Longmire turned in a solid performance on both end of the floor with a stat line of 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
The Buffs were strong on the glass Tuesday night outrebounding Johnson 45-36.
The Buffs return to action Thursday night with a visiting matchup against St. Andrews at 5:30 PM.
