Women’s Basketball defeated by IU East at RedStorm Classic

IU East moves to 2-0 on the season while Milligan falls to 0-2.
Halie Padgett scored the game's first basket, but that was the only lead the Buffs would enjoy the entire afternoon as the Red Wolves quickly tied the game and took the lead minutes later.
The closest Milligan came to re-taking the lead late in the first quarter as Jaycie Jenkins scored, got a steal and knocked down a three to put the Buffs down one, 16-15 with three minutes to go in the first. However, the Red Wolves outscored Milligan 9-2 to close the quarter and led 25-17 after 10 minutes of play.
Early in the second quarter, IU East pushed its lead to double digits. Back-to-back baskets by Stacia Wilson and Lauren Longmire near the midway point of the second quarter brought the Buffs back, down 36-27, but the Red Wolves responded with a 7-2 spurt.
IU East led 52-35 at the half and the Buffs were unable to get back within single digits at any point in the second half.
Jenkins led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds. Padgett and Kristy Galea had 10 points apiece.
The Buffs outrebounded IU East 48-41 and had 25 offensive rebounds, which led to the Buffs attempting 19 more field goals than the Red Wolves. However, the Red Wolves shot 51.6 percent from the field, 47.1 percent from three and made 21-of-27 free throws.
IU East had five scorers in double-figures, led by Addie Brown's game-high 25.
Milligan returns to action Tuesday night at Alice Lloyd.
