Women’s basketball tops Truett in AAC tournament
Kaely Gose scored her 1,000th career point as a member of the Milligan College women’s basketball team, and the Buffaloes ran away with a 71-51 win over Truett McConnell University in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center.
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2020) – Kaely Gose scored her 1,000th career point as a member of the Milligan College women's basketball team, and the Buffaloes ran away with a 71-51 win over Truett McConnell University in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center.
With the win, Milligan advanced to the quarterfinals and will face No. 13 Bryan College Thursday at 12 p.m.
Gose's double-double leads Buffs
Gose scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season. She scored a 3-pointer in the first minute coming out of the break to help Milligan put the game away in the second half. This followed a big first half by Malarie Tallent that put the Buffs up 10 at the break. The game featured three ties and eight lead changes, all of which came in the first 15 minutes of action.
After the last tie of the game midway through the second quarter, Milligan scored the next six points as part of a 17-5 run to put their lead up to double digits. The Buffs led by double digits for the entire second half, including leading by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter.
Scoring leaders
Behind Gose, Tallent scored a career high of 14 points and added four rebounds. Griffith scored 11 with seven rebounds, and Halie Padgett scored seven points with 12 rebounds.
Three players from Truett made it to double figures, led by Sierra Kendall, who scored 15.
Gose's career scoring
Gose moved her career scoring total to 1,036 points including her career before transferring to Milligan. At Milligan, she has scored 1,009 points and added 597 rebounds. She has 16 career double-doubles.

Milligan faces top-seeded and No. 13-ranked Bryan Thursday at 12 p.m. in the third game of the day. A win over Bryan would put the Buffs into the semifinals where they would face the winner of Allen and Kentucky Christian Friday at 6 p.m. The championship game is set for Saturday at approximately 3 p.m.
