MONTREAT, N.C. (Jan. 28, 2020) – Kaely Gose scored 19 points and added nine rebounds, but the Milligan College women's basketball team lost for the first time in three weeks, 57-55 at Montreat College Tuesday night on the road. The loss snapped Milligan's six-game winning streak, although the Buffs finished January with a record of 7-3.
Gose was one of three Buffs in double figures, followed by Halie Padgett, who scored 12, and Cali Weddle, who scored a career high 10.
Buffs fall despite late lead
Milligan led by as many as 11 in the first half and by as many as nine in the fourth quarter, but a furious rally from Montreat sealed the Buffs' fate. The Cavaliers finished the game on an 18-7 run over the last six minutes, starting the run with an 11-2 stretch where they tied the game up at 50-50.
Teams then exchanged three lead changes before a basket just outside of two minutes left to play put Montreat on top for good. The Buffs had a chance to tie in the final seconds, forcing a turnover and getting one final shot off as time expired, but Padgett's shot narrowly missed.
