Buffs win AAC road game behind perimeter shooting
Sophomore Halie Padgett tallied a career high 15 rebounds in her second double-double of the season, and the Milligan College women’s basketball team utilized the 3-pointer to defeat Point University 65-60 Saturday afternoon on the road.
WEST POINT, Ga. (Dec. 14, 2019) – Sophomore Halie Padgett tallied a career high 15 rebounds in her second double-double of the season, and the Milligan College women's basketball team utilized the 3-pointer to defeat Point University 65-60 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Buffs connected for 10 made 3-pointers, including scoring their first 15 points of the game from beyond the arc.
Six connect from three as Buffs win for third time in last five games
Malarie Tallent scored a 3-pointer in the first minute of the game as Milligan jumped out to an early lead and trailed only once the entire way. It sparked a quarter in which Milligan connected from the perimeter four more times, one more from Tallent, twice from Hannah Wyrick and once from Kayla Romines.
Padgett and Bailey Berry then made a pair of triples early in the second quarter as part of a 12-2 run which put Milligan up by a 14-point advantage, their largest of the game.
Point managed to bring the game back to a tie early in the second half, but Lauren Baxter had one of the answers this time, knocking down a three of her own to help expand Milligan's lead once again.
Kaely Gose had a couple of key baskets down the stretch, and the Buffs made enough free throws to hold on for the win.
Statistical leaders
Padgett's double-double included 12 points and 15 rebounds. Gose led Milligan with 13 points. All seven other Buffs to enter the game made it into the scoring column, including Wyrick who scored nine.
For Point, both Te' Johnson and Nicole Tzuagie scored 19.

Milligan returns home for one final game before entering the new year. The Buffs host Alice Lloyd College Monday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse and will look for redemption of an 80-68 loss earlier this season.
