Softball splits with Brenau in AAC regular season finale
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 17, 2023) – The Milligan University softball team split with Brenau in the final Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) regular season doubleheader of the season at Anglin Field on Monday afternoon. The Buffs downed the Golden Tigers 5-2 in game one and fell 10-1 in game two.

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 17, 2023) – The Milligan University softball team split with Brenau in the final Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) regular season doubleheader of the season at Anglin Field on Monday afternoon. The Buffs downed the Golden Tigers 5-2 in game one and fell 10-1 in game two.
Milligan ends conference play with a 20-12 overall record and 16-12 AAC mark. The Buffs finish the year 13-3 at Anglin Field with wins over #18 Tennessee Wesleyan, (RV) Truett McConnell and Breanu, all three of which rank in the top four of the AAC standings. Brenau closes the regular season with a 24-10 record and 20-8 AAC record.
Game 1 – Milligan 5, Brenau 2
Milligan scored three runs in the bottom of the first and led the rest of the game as the Buffs notched another win over another top-four team in the AAC standings.
Bailey Cantrell smacked an RBI double, Maggie Johnson bunted home Cantrell and Hanna Taylor drovein another run with a base hit.
Brenau scored a run in the third but stranded runners on second and third. The Golden Tigers left eight runners on base in the ballgame.
Grace Jones and Katie Cronin each drove in a run in the fourth to grow Milligan's lead to 5-1. Brenau scored once in the seventh but Erin Forgety held off the Tigers for a complete game win.
Forgety allowed just two runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Cantrell and Taylor each had two hits and an RBI. Jones, Cronin and Cantrell each drove in and scored a run.
Game 2 – Brenau 10, Milligan 1 (5 innings)
Brenau outhit the Buffs 13-4 in game two on their way to a five-inning run-rule victory. The Tigers scored three runs in the first, one in the third and six in the fifth.
Milligan's lone run came on a groundout by Alexis Brown to plate Cronin, who went 2-2 in the game. Cantrell doubled in the loss.
Five of Brenau's 10 runs were unearned.
Milligan closes its regular season at Emory & Henry on Friday.
