WALESKA, Ga. (March 26, 2023) – The Milligan University softball team lost a 2-1 heartbreaker and dropped a 9-1 ballgame at Reinhardt on Sunday afternoon.

WALESKA, Ga. (March 26, 2023) – The Milligan University softball team lost a 2-1 heartbreaker and dropped a 9-1 ballgame at Reinhardt on Sunday afternoon.
The Buffs fall to 12-10 on the year and 8-10 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Reinhardt, who received votes in the latest NAIA national rankings, rise to 16-8, 11-1 AAC.
Game 1 – Reinhardt 2, Milligan 1
The Buffs found themselves on the wrong end of a one-run ballgame for the seventh time this season.
Milligan pitcher Erin Forgety held Reinhardt without a baserunner through four innings and without a hit through five.
The Buffs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Bailey Cantrell roped a one-out double and Libby Jaynes drove her in with a single to center field.
Reinhardt broke up Forgety's no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Eagles' baserunner stole second with one out but a strikeout and lineout ended the inning.
The Buffs carried their 1-0 edge into the bottom of the seventh. The Eagles led off the inning with a walk and tied the game with a triple to right field. The next Reinhardt batter singled home the winning run.
Forgety allowed two earned runs on three hits in six innings of work. She struck out five and walked two in the game.
Game 2 – Reinhardt 9, Milligan 1 (5 innings)
Game two saw Reinhardt's bats come alive as the Eagles made Milligan pay for six errors in the ballgame.
Kate Pendleton hit a solo home run in the second inning but Reinhardt led 5-1 after two innings of action. The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the third and two in the fifth to trigger a 9-1 run-rule victory after five innings.
Pendleton's home run was one of two hits for Milligan in the ballgame.
The Buffs' next four conference doubleheaders will be played at Anglin Field. Milligan hosts CIU on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
