MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 11, 2020) – The Milligan College softball team fell in their Appalachian Athletic Conference home opener to Bryan College 15-1 and 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at Anglin Field.
Game one
Bryan jumped out early, scoring eight runs in the first inning off of eight hits and added on six more runs in the second and one more in the third. Kara Weems came in for relief for Milligan in the fourth and the fifth innings and was able to minimize the damage holding the Lions to no hits and no runs in the last two innings before the run rule came into effect.
The Buffs lone run came in the bottom of the fourth off of a Karsten Miller hit to right field to score April Alvarado. Alvarado reached base on a hit to start the inning off, followed by Grace Jones who reached base on a bunt, but one run was all the Buffs were able to get across as both Miller and Jones were left on base.
Game two
It was a pitchers' duel entering the fifth inning as Erin Forgety had only given up two hits for Milligan and Madison Owens for Bryan had only given up one. In the top of the fifth, Bryan was able to get two runs across and it was all the scoring that they would need to do as Milligan was unable to put any runs across the board.
Forgety suffered the loss in a complete game where she struck out four. Savannah Nocera went 2-for-3 and Neelee Griffith went 1-for-3.
Up next
Weather pending, Milligan is scheduled to travel to Georgia for two AAC doubleheaders. First they will play Brenau on Friday, March 13, then Truett McConnell on Saturday, March 14.
