Griffith’s grand slam lifts Buffs over Allen
The Milligan College softball team completed their six game road series in Columbia, South Carolina, with a doubleheader sweep of Allen University Monday afternoon. Milligan won game one 9-1 in six innings and game two 18-0 in five innings.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 9, 2020) — The Milligan College softball team completed their six game road series in Columbia, South Carolina, with a doubleheader sweep of Allen University Monday afternoon. Milligan won game one 9-1 in six innings and game two 18-0 in five innings.
In game one, freshman Kara Weems got her first collegiate start inside the circle and went five innings giving up one (earned) run, three hits and two strikeouts. Kendyl McCollister came in for relief in the sixth inning and gave up one hit while striking out one. Milligan was ahead 4-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before junior Neelee Griffith helped Milligan increase their lead with a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth. Lainey Mays then went on to score in the sixth to give Milligan the win.
In game two, Milligan saw 14 players reach base via walk and were able to get nine hits. The Buffs scored in every inning with two runs in the first, 10 in the second and three in the third and fourth innings. Madison Cook led the Buffs going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Following Cook was Bailey Cantrell who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Mays who went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Grace Jones who went 2-for-3. Allee Griffith got her first collegiate start as well going the entire game, giving up three hits, two walks and striking out five.
Up next, Milligan will travel to Georgia for two Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheaders. First they will play Brenau on Friday, March 13, and then Truett-McConnell on Saturday, March 14.
