MILLIGAN, Tenn. (August 12, 2021) – The Milligan University men's cross country and track & field programs added another top-notch international signee on Thursday as head coach Chris Layne announced the signing of incoming Welsh freshman Bryn Woodall.
A native of Conwy, Wales in the United Kingdom, Woodall has posted a successful 2021 already with the Colwyn Bay Athletic Club. Less than two weeks ago, he set personal bests and U20 Colwyn Bay club records at the Welsh Junior Championships with a 4:01.98 showing the 1500m and an 8:46.94 effort in the 3k.
Over the summer he posted extremely competitive times in a pair of 5k road races at Rhyl. He posted 5k road times of 14:51 and 15:15 in June and July. Milligan's current outdoor 5k record is 14:30.60, set by Nathan Baker this past season.
"Bryn is undoubtedly a talented young man and he has had an outstanding 2021," said Layne. "We're looking at an extremely deep squad this fall, but I think he has the ability to come in as a freshman and impact this men's team right away."
Woodall and incoming graduate student Will Stockley follow in the footsteps of several Buff greats that made the transition from Great Britain to northeastern Tennessee. GB transplants Hannah Segrave, Emily Kearney and Baker all won multiple individual NAIA National Championships for the Buffs as international competitors in the last decade.
Last year Milligan's men's cross country team placed third at the 2020-21 NAIA National Championships, the top team finish in program history. The Buffs also placed eighth nationally at the 2021 NAIA Indoor National Championships and 21st at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
Milligan's men's cross country squad begins its 2021 season Friday, Sept. 3 at the Covered Bridge Invitational in Boone, N.C.
Woodall plans to major in exercise science.
