Jones, Layne among USTFCCCA regional award winners
Freshman Aaron Jones won South Region men’s athlete of the year while Head Coach Chris Layne won South Region men’s coach of the year and women’s coach of the year to highlight the prestigious honors for the Milligan University cross-country program.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 6, 2021) – Freshman Aaron Jones won South Region men's athlete of the year while Head Coach Chris Layne won South Region men's coach of the year and women's coach of the year to highlight the prestigious honors for the Milligan University cross-country program.
Jones helped the men of Milligan complete an undefeated fall season with wins in all six events. This included the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship, where Jones won the individual title in 25:11 and claimed AAC runner of the year. Jones also was victorious at the Montreat XC Fall Classic/AAC Preview.
Layne led the Buffs through the unique fall which will see the Buffaloes conclude their 2020-21 campaign this week at the national championships. In addition to the men's success, Layne's women won five of six events, culminating with a victory at the AAC Championship.
Up next, Layne's crew is in action this week for the NAIA Cross Country National Championships, as the Buffaloes head to the national stage with rankings of No. 4 (women) and No. 9 (men).
