Men’s volleyball picks up first win of the season
The Milligan College men’s volleyball team claimed their first win of the season, sweeping Appalachian State University on Sunday, Feb. 2 inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 6, 2020) – The Milligan College men's volleyball team claimed their first win of the season, sweeping Appalachian State University on Sunday, Feb. 2 inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Set-by-set
In the first set, Milligan started strong, taking an early 10-6 lead. Growing the lead, the Buffs distanced themselves from the Mountaineers by seven point, making the score 17-10. Appalachian State fought hard to diminish the Buffs' lead winning five rallies in a row however, Ryan Goines put an end to their momentum with a kill that finished the set. The final score of the first set was 25-23.
The Buffs controlled the early parts of the second set winning 15 of the first 20 rallies. Despite Milligan's early lead, Appalachian State once again had a late set comeback. Milligan had a commanding 23-11 lead but Appalachian State won 10 points in the time that it took for Milligan to close the set with two points. The Buffs won the second set 25-21.
The third set was similar to the first two as Milligan held control of the beginning of the set and pushed for a six point lead, making the score 13-7 and eventually pushing their lead out 19-10. The Mountaineers continued with a late set push and brought their score up to 21 points by the time Goines ended the set with a kill and a 25-21 win for the Buffaloes. Goines led the team with 13 kills and freshman Jeston Mason led the team in digs with 14.
