Men's volleyball opens home season with win
Nathan Gibson and Jacob Smith both posted double-doubles while Hobie Vannoy had 43 assists as the Milligan men's volleyball team took the last three sets to come up victorious in its home opener, 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-13) Wednesday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 17, 2016) – Junior Nathan Gibson and sophomore Jacob Smith both posted double-doubles while junior Hobie Vannoy had 43 assists as the Milligan College men's volleyball team took the last three sets to come up victorious over Bryan College in its home opener, 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-13) Wednesday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Gibson finished with a team-high 18 kills and added 10 digs while Smith finished with 13 kills and 12 digs. Smith added a service ace while Gibson stuffed the stat sheet with two aces, two block assists and a solo stuff. In addition to his strong assist total, Vannoy added seven digs and an ace, and had four kills on five attempts. The final Buffalo to reach double-digit kills was junior Joshua Foote who had 10.
Other leaders for the Buffs were freshman Luke Dove with eight kills, two block assists and a solo block; sophomore Drew Doehring with two solo blocks and three kills on five attempts; and junior Andrew Simonsen with 11 digs and two aces.
Next up, Milligan will play on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the University of Tennessee in the Bud Fields Tournament before returning home next Wednesday, Feb. 24, to take on Bluefield College at 6:30 p.m.
