Indoor Track earns 32 All-AAC honors at AAC Indoor Championships
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 20, 2023) – The Milligan University men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams earned 32 all-conference awards at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships last week.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 20, 2023) – The Milligan University men's and women's indoor track & field teams earned 32 all-conference awards at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships last week.
Milligan became the first institution to sweep the men's and women's team titles at the AAC indoor championship meet. The Buffs combined to win 17 AAC titles and set three championship meet records at the JDL Fast Track. Milligan's men set an AAC Championship meet record with a team score of 219 points.
All-AAC designation is awarded to athletes and relays who finish in the top-three at their respective event at the championship meet. Milligan's women collected 15 all-conference certificates while the men snagged 17 All-AAC awards.
Bryn Woodall won AAC titles in the 1k, mile and 3k and was honored as the AAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Caitlin Dominy was honored as the AAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after securing four-time All-AAC honorees and winning the conference championship in the 3k. Ellen Mary Kearney claimed AAC titles in the 800, 1k and mile and snagged an additional All-AAC honor in the 4x400-meter relay, and was honored as the AAC Women's Freshman of the Year.
Head coach Chris Layne and assistant coaches Natalia Rivas-Foster, Sebastien O'Neill and Emily Kearney were honored as the men's and women's AAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
A total of 12 women and 16 men earned at least one All-AAC individual or relay award. Dominy, Kearney and Rebecca Glover led Milligan's women with four All-AAC honors each. Woodall led Milligan's men with three All-AAC awards. Alyssa Bearzi, Megan Christian, Sophia Jeffers and Kiley Wood each earned two All-AAC certificates. Sylas Chambers, Keith Fletcher, Sami Koko, Skylan Stephens, Will Stockley, Aaron Vaughn and Ja'Quan Williams each collected two All-AAC honors for Milligan's men.
Kearney set AAC Championship records in the 800 and 1k. Her 1k mark also set Milligan's program record. Woodall set an AAC Championship meet and JDL Fast Track collegiate venue record in the 1k.
The Buffs turn their attention to the NAIA National Championships next week in Brookings, S.D. The NAIA announces its championship field on Friday.
