Stockley and Jones run national No. 1 times on day two of Camel City Invitational
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (February 4, 2023) – Milligan University’s indoor track & field teams posted six national standards and a pair of school records among a loaded field on the second day of the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track on Saturday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (February 4, 2023) – Milligan University's indoor track & field teams posted six national standards and a pair of school records among a loaded field on the second day of the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track on Saturday.
Milligan totaled nine NAIA national standards with six automatic qualifying marks over the two days at the Camel City Invite. Of Milligan's automatic qualifiers, six posted top-five national times.
"Just really excited with where we're sitting as a team heading into the championship window of the season," said head coach Chris Layne. "This crew have continued to work hard and feed off one another and they're doing this on a flat track, though we love JDL and what they do for the sport here. We're always able to get great competition and the meet and its organizers really champion these kids."
Aaron Jones posted a school record in the men's 3k. He finished sixth overall among an 87-man field and with an 8:14.08 effort. His time will convert into the top mark nationally. Bryn Woodall joined Jones with an NAIA "A" standard in the 3k with a 10th-place showing in 8:18.39. Evan Henson made it three Buffs with national standards in the 3k as his time of 8:38.07 converts to a qualifying mark.
Will Stockley secured an NAIA "A" standard in the men's mile as he raced to a fifth-place finish in 4:09.37. Stockley's mark converted to the No. 1 time in the nation this season.
Caitlin Dominy broke Milligan's school record and posted the second-fastest time nationally in the 3k in 9:51.17. Dominy's mark hit the NAIA "A" standard and eclipsed the previous school record of 9:51.73 set by Buff great Hannah Segrave. In a loaded field of over 60 runners, Dominy notched a sixth-place finish. Ashlyn Haas improved upon her 3k debut with an 11:06.75.
Ellen Mary Kearney notched an NAIA "A" standard in her fifth different event of the season as she posted a top-five finish in the mile. She posted a 4:54.62 and owns the No. 3 time nationally after conversion.
Mikel Valladares ran to a 12th-place finish in the men's 800 in 2:00.09. Rebecca Glover ran 2:26.80 and Kiley Wood finished in 2:30.93 in their season events debuts in the 800.
The Buffs are idle next weekend before the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships at the JDL Fast Track on Feb. 16-17.
