Notable results abound for No. 12/14 Buffs at VMI Winter Relays
LEXINGTON, Va. (January 29, 2022) – Milligan University's nationally-ranked indoor track and field teams wrapped up their weekend at the VMI Winter Relays with a variety of notable performances on Saturday.
LEXINGTON, Va. (January 29, 2022) – Milligan University's nationally-ranked indoor track and field teams wrapped up their weekend at the VMI Winter Relays with a variety of notable performances on Saturday.
Will Stockley topped a field of nearly 50 runners in the mile with a personal best time of 4:12.87. Stockley's mark met the NAIA "A" standard and is a top-five time nationally. Samir Koko (4:37.84) and Matt Huff (4:40.77) logged Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standards in the mile as well.
Avery DeWolf Burton finished second in the 3k with an NAIA "A" standard and national No. 2 time of 10:02.77. Alyssa Bearzi finished fourth in the 3k with a national qualifying time of 10:22.76.
Jake Crow was third in the 3k with a national qualifying effort of 8:39.38. Pablo Rivas took sixth in 8:48.54, Alex Brittain was seventh in 8:55.21 and Zimri Kuhn posted a PB to finish ninth (8:58.21).
Sylas Chambers ran to a runner-up showing in the 800 in 1:56.35. On the women's side, Kiley Wood ran 2:28.76 to finish 10th in the 800.
In the women's mile, Caitlin Dominy finished eighth in 5:26.76 and Kaelyn Slaughter recorded another AAC-qualifying time of 5:56.70.
Kamdyn Lee posted a top-10 finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.39 meters to finish 10th. He also ran a personal record 22.98 in the 200.
Ellie Ayers followed a PR in the weight throw yesterday with another personal record in the shot put (10.88) to finish in the top half of a field of a 40-thrower field.
"I thought we had a solid weekend on both sides," said head coach Chris Layne. "We've really gotten a lot accomplished so far this season so we'll sit down as a staff and determine how we approach the rest of indoors so it sets us up well for the AAC Champs and nationals."
In the first round of USTFCCCA national rankings that were released this week, Milligan appeared at No. 12 in the men's poll and No. 14 on the women's side.
The Buffs head back to the JDL Fast Track next weekend for the Carmel City Elite for their final tune-up before the AAC Championships.
