WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (December 5, 2021) – The Milligan University men's indoor track & field team concluded the season-opening indoor season in style on the final day of the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off on Sunday at the JDL Fast Track.
After Milligan women's indoor track & field squad took center stage on Saturday, the Buffs' men made a statement on Sunday.
"I'm really pumped for our men that competed at JDL today - every single guy performed well - a great way to close out the semester," said head coach Chris Layne.
Milligan's distance crew showed out with seven NAIA qualifying efforts just two weeks after raising the program's first-ever NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship.
Will Stockley record a national No. 1 time in the 3k at 8:25.23. Nathan Baker (8:32.37) and Jake Crow (8:39.68) joined Stockley with qualifying times and top-six national marks. Alex Brittain also debuted with an 8:54.21.
In the 5k, Aaron Jones, Eli Cramer, Bryn Woodall and Alex Mortimer all secured national qualifying times. Jones, Cramer and Woodall each bested the previous meet record and exceeded the NAIA "A" standards. Jones finished in 14:37.04, Cramer in 14:38.22, Woodall in 14:40.56 and Mortimer in 15:08.32. Sunday marked PBs all around in the 5k for Milligan, including Pablo Rivas, who finished ninth in 15:27.37.

Sylas Chambers took third in the 600 in 1:23.72 in his collegiate debut and was joined in the top eight by Ja'Quan Williams (1:26.00).
All told, Milligan's indoor track & field teams recorded 10 national qualifying standards in 17 NAIA Top 10 marks in the Buffs' opening weekend.
"We had over 50 student-athletes compete this weekend and to get that many going this early is a testimony to the hard work they've put in under the guidance of a great staff of coaches," said Layne.
Milligan indoor track & field resumes its schedule on Jan. 21-22 at the Finn Pincus Invitational in Roanoke, Va.
