BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2021) – Sam Wehner, Ethan Pfister and Gracie Allen brought home individual victories as the Milligan University track & field No. 11 women and No. 17 men tuned up one final time prior to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships, competing at the Montreat Winter Invite on Friday.
Wehner won the 1000 meters while Pfister and Allen won the 600 meters. Allen earned the top spot by more than seven seconds, following an effort from earlier in the day that saw her lead a 2-3-5 finish in the 1k. Caitlin Dominy and Kaelyn Slaughter took third and fifth, respectively, in that event.
Other Buffs to compete included a handful in the men's 3k. Andrew Burton finished second to lead Alex Mortimer (fifth) and Eli Baldy (sixth) who all earned AAC Championship qualifiers.
Jemimah Ndune highlighted the field events with a fourth-place finish in the women's long jump, marking a start back from an injury earlier this season.
"Tough conditions today being outdoors, but the plan was to get a few more AAC qualifiers and to get a few more reps for those working back from illness or injury," Head Coach Chris Layne said. "I think we accomplished what we wanted."
Up next for Milligan are the AAC Championships, set for Thursday-Friday, Feb. 18-19.
