LEXINGTON, Va. (Feb. 15, 2020) – Rasheem Brown dominated the 60-meter hurdles, and the Milligan College track & field team finished up the indoor regular season at the Virginia Military Institute Indoor Classic Friday and Saturday.
Brown kept his collegiate winning streak alive by taking the final of the hurdles for the 12th time in a row. He ran the event three times and posted marks well under the national A standard in each. Brown ran 7.86 in the final although he posted his lowest time of 7.79 in the semifinals, where he won his heat and had the fastest time heading into the finals.
Brianna Buck posted strong results as well, placing seventh in the elite section of the women's high jump. She leaped 1.60 meters, which equaled her indoor personal best.
"I thought we had a really good weekend," Head Coach Chris Layne said. "The AAC Championships are a week away, and we just used this to give everyone another rep to sharpen up or take advantage of their fitness. Across the board, we saw a number of personal bests so I'm optimistic heading into conference."
Personal bests
Other Buffs with personal bests on the women's side included Halie Hawkins, who jumped to 2.90 meters in the pole vault for her new indoor best, and Ali Burns, who ran 5:27.92 in the mile. Tons Ferguson (6.80 meters in the long jump) and Ethan Pfister (4:32.67 in the mile) posted personal bests on the men's side. Ferguson's mark helped him earn 13th overall in his event, while Seth Nicol followed close behind Pfister in the mile with a season best coming back from an early season injury.
Senior Ronan Philippot, also coming back from injury, won his section of the 400 meters in 51.02 and finishes 22nd overall in a deep field of 61 participants.
