Buffaloes Tennis Teams Hand Montreat Two 6-1 Losses
MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Monday afternoon, the Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams faced off with the Montreat College Cavaliers at Mathes Tennis Center. Both MU squads ran away with dominant 6-1 wins over the visiting Cavs.
Men's singles included wins from each of the top five matches, as Gonzaga Lafarga began the day with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Then, Tomas Tenil came away with a 6-4, 7-6 (1) triumph in No. 2. Michal Curlej's 6-1, 6-2 victory gave the Buffs their third singles win, before Martin Mercarder was a winner in the No. 4 match, downing his opponent 6-3, 6-4. Thiago Petry won with no trouble in the fifth tilt, notching a 6-1, 6-1 decision.
Milligan's three doubles pairings swept the competition, as Curlej and Ryan Thomas combined to win 6-4 in the top matchup. Petry and Marcos Moreno grabbed a 6-3 win, and Tenil and Brayden Kennedy came away with their own 6-4 triumph.
Each of the No. 2-6 singles matches went the way of the Lady Buffs in their competition. Marta Miralles started things with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Sophie Dunman then notched a dominant 6-1, 6-0 triumph, and Lauren Wimmer came away with a 6-1, 6-3 decision in her favor. Trinity Fox's 6-3, 6-1 win precluded Laurel Rich's forfeit win to give Milligan six wins.
In doubles, Miralles and Dunham won 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match, while the No. 3 doubles battle also went the Buffaloes way via forfeit, as Lee Ann Endler and Rich had the win credited to them.
Another match is coming up at Mathes Tennis Center, as the Buffaloes host the Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 2 p.m. in non-conference tilts.
