Men’s and Women’s Tennis take down Truett McConnell for AAC wins

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 2, 2024) – The Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams picked up their first Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) wins of the season at Truett McConnell on Saturday. The Buffs took a 7-0 win in the women's match and a 6-1 men's victory. Milligan's men also took on Indiana Wesleyan and fell 4-2.

Both Milligan squads advance to 1-1 in conference play on the season.

Milligan took the doubles point in the women's match with a combined score of 18-1. Macy Kennedy and Marta Miralles won 6-0 at second singles with Lauren Wimmer and Tiana Shelton winning 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Miralles won 6-1, 6-1 at first singles. Kennedy was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles. Sophie Dunman took a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at third singles. Shelton (6-1, 6-4) and Wimmer (6-1, 6-0) collected wins at fourth and fifth singles. Trinity Fox earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth singles.

Milligan's men won all three doubles matches against TMU. Justin Rigsby and Nathan Smiley took a 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Gonzaga Lafarga and Brayden Kennedy were 6-4 victors at No. 2 doubles and Sean Brown and Gabrijel Kajic won 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Stefan Macheiner won at top singles 6-1, 6-2. Smiley won in straight sets at No. 2 singles. Kajic (6-1, 6-2), Marcos Moreno (6-1, 6-0) and Ryan Thomas (6-0, 6-2) won at third-through-fifth singles to clinch the match.

Against IWU, the Buffs won took the doubles point with wins at first and third doubles. Smiley and Rigsby won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles while Lafarga and Kennedy took a 6-2 win at third doubles.

Thomas was Mililgan's lone singles winner at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-2.

Both Milligan tennis squads host Midway on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mathes Tennis Center.
