Tennis defeated by nationally-ranked Cumberlands
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (February 24, 2024) – The Milligan University tennis teams took on a pair of nationally-ranked units from the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon. Milligan fell to No. 14 Cumberlands 5-2 in the women's match and 6-1 to the No. 11 Patriots in the men's contest.
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (February 24, 2024) – The Milligan University tennis teams took on a pair of nationally-ranked units from the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon. Milligan fell to No. 14 Cumberlands 5-2 in the women's match and 6-1 to the No. 11 Patriots in the men's contest.
Milligan women are 4-5 while the men stand at 2-7.
The Buffs won the doubles point in the women's match as Kylie Enarson and Sophie Dunman took a 7-5 win at first singles and Macy Kennedy and Marta Miralles earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Lauren Wimmer secured a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles for the Buffs' second point. Kennedy won eight games at No. 3 singles but fell 6-4, 6-4.
Thiago Petry and Gonzaga Lafarga dropped a 6-4 match at No. 2 doubles.
Lafarga earned Milligan's lone point in singles play with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 win at second singles. Stefan Macheiner was edged 5-7, 7-6, 6-1 at first singles. Petry rallied back from a 6-1 defeat to force a super tiebreaker in but fell 6-1, 6-7, 10-6. Nathan Smiley won nine games in a two-set defeat at No. 3 singles.
Both Milligan squads take on Lees-McRae next week.
