Men’s and women’s tennis sweep Johnson (Tenn.) in AAC action
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 2, 2022) – The Milligan University tennis teams both earned 7-0 victories over Johnson (Tenn.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action on Wednesday afternoon.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 2, 2022) – The Milligan University tennis teams both earned 7-0 victories over Johnson (Tenn.) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action on Wednesday afternoon.
The triumph is the first conference win for both squads as Milligan's men move to 6-2 overall and the Buffs' women rise to 5-3.
Milligan won all three men's doubles flights with an aggregate score of 18-2. Macros Moreno and Derian Janeke earned a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles while Landon Brown and Justin Rigsby logged a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Nathan Smiley won No. 1 singles 6,1, 6-0, Carter Rigsby took second singles 6-1, 6-0, Moreno won No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1, Janeke won fourth singles 6-1, 6-1, Justin Rigsby took No. 5 singles in straight sets and Thomas won at sixth singles 6-2, 6-0.
On the women's side, Milligan took all three doubles flights. Kaitlin Barrett and Katie Leonard teamed to pull out a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Macy Kennedy and Katie Warf combined for a 6-4 win at second doubles and Karson Light and Hannah Dove took a 6-1 victory at third doubles.
Barrett notched a competitive 7-6 win in her first set and took the point at No. 1 singles with a 6-1 effort in the second set. Kennedy won No. 2 singles 6-0, 2-0. Kylie Enarson and Karson Light won in straight sets in third and fourth singles. Hannah Nelson won fifth singles 6-2, 6-0 and Makenna Peterson won at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1.
Milligan tennis heads to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina for its spring break trip on Sunday. The Buffs open up spring break play Sunday at 10:00 a.m. against Georgetown.
