Men’s tennis goes 4-1 over spring break
Charlie Moseley and Derian Janeke both posted four singles wins as the Milligan College men’s tennis team posted a 4-1 record in Hilton Head Island over spring break. The wins helped move Milligan to 5-6 on the season.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 13, 2020) – Charlie Moseley and Derian Janeke both posted four singles wins as the Milligan College men's tennis team posted a 4-1 record in Hilton Head Island over spring break. The wins helped move Milligan to 5-6 on the season.
The Buffs' only blemish came at the hands of No. 23 Missouri Valley in the middle match of the week. They posted wins of 5-2 over Berry and 4-3 over Thomas More on the front end before winning 7-2 over Gordon and 4-3 over Lawrence Tech on the back end.
Moseley helped lead the Buffs in both singles and doubles. He went 4-1 in singles in a similar fashion as the team, only dropping a three-setter to No. 23 Missouri Valley midway through the trip. He also went 3-1 in doubles. Moseley and Carter Rigsby paired for the 3-1 doubles record, although the loss in the final match of the week snapped a six-match winning streak for the No. 3 doubles duo.
In singles, Moseley posted all four wins in straight sets.
Also winning four times in singles was Janeke, who opened the week with a close first set against Berry's Clay Jones then later posted a close win in a super tiebreaker, 10-3, over Gordon College's Will Jeffreys.
Moseley improved his singles record to a team-leading 7-3 this season while Janeke improved to 6-4. Rigsby also owns a 6-4 record this season as he went 2-2 in singles this week. Rigsby posted two wins in straight sets and two losses that needed additional points in the super tiebreaker, 14-12 in both.
Following Moseley and Janeke in the win column was Taylor Graalman, who went 3-2 in singles matches. One of Graalman's two losses came in three sets as he fell in a super tiebreaker in the opening match of the week.
Graalman paired with Mason Grear for a 3-2 doubles record.
