MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 22, 2020) – The Milligan College tennis teams hosted their spring Appalachian Athletic Conference opener Saturday at Mathes Tennis Center, but both fell to nationally ranked Union College 6-1.
Charlie Moseley picked up the lone point against national No. 10 Union, although the men's result was closer than the score would suggest. While Moseley won 6-2, 6-1 over Union's Henry St. John, two other Buffs went to a third set, including Taylor Graalman, who bounced back from losing the first but fell in the third, and Mason Grear, who won his opening set but lost the next two.
Milligan also posted a close doubles decision, winning at No. 3 doubles and losing narrowly, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles. Moseley and Carter Rigsby represented the No. 3 doubles pair.
On the women's side, Rachel Dove earned the lone Milligan point as the Buffs fell to No. 13 Union. Like Moseley, Dove won in straight sets, including a tiebreak for the second.
Up next, the Milligan women head to Columbia, South Carolina, to face Columbia College next Wednesday before both teams play at home again next Friday in another AAC match against Tennessee Wesleyan. Match time versus TWU is set for 1 p.m. at Mathes Tennis Center.
