Fry Posts Runner-Up Finish in 100 Yard Breaststroke for Milligan Swimming on Day Three
ELKHART, Ind. — The third day of the NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships in Elkhart, Ind. took place on Friday, as the Buffaloes men and women take part in a quartet of events, posting three new Milligan records, a national runner-up, two individual All-Americans, an All-American relay team and a national title-winning relay squad in the process.
Milligan's 100 Yard Butterfly swimmer on the women's side was Mary Grace Bitting, as she swam a time of 57.15 in the B-Final which was the eighth-fastest time of all 16 finalists. The men had both Joash Mckonie (5th, 48.45) and Sergio Tudor (8th, 48.70) post top-eight times as NAIA All-Americans in the 100 Yard Butterfly.
The men's 100 Yard Breaststroke saw Caleb Fry become the NAIA runner-up in the event with a stellar time of 53.92 seconds. He also earned All-American status with the swim. In the same race, Robert Adam posted a fifth-place showing to reach All-American status with a time of 55.59 seconds.
Mckonie was able to hop into the top eight final times of the 100 Yard Backstroke, where he swam at a 48.98-second clip to notch a seventh-place showing. He started in the B-Final of the event.
The women's 400 Yard Medley Relay squad placed 10th, as Samantha van Vuure, Teagan Jose, Bitting and Madison Akbari combined to swim a 3:55.31 mark and earned 14 points toward the team score. The Milligan men were unfortunately disqualified on an early take off in their race.
Following the day, Milligan's women sit in 10th place and the Buffaloes men are sitting in third, just 12 points behind the second-place squad, SCAD.
The meet will conclude on Saturday, as preliminaries for the 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke and 200 Yard Butterfly, as well as the 1,650 Yard Freestyle Finals, begin at 9 a.m. ET. Those events, sans the 1,650 Yard Freestyle, will have their finals during the evening session, which begins at 5 p.m. ET.
