Swimming sweeps King in home dual
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (January 12, 2024) – The Milligan University swim teams honored their seniors and took men’s and women’s dual meet victories over King at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse Swimming Pool on Friday afternoon.

In the lone home meet of the season, the Buffs set three pool records and took a 146-52 win in the men's meet and a 137-62 victory on the women's side.
"Really good way to start the second semester," said head coach Spencer Scarth. "We had opportunities to swim some different races and see where we are at after some hard winter training. I'm very thankful to our graduates who swam their final home meet ever, they have left a huge mark on our team during their time here."
Tyler Cates, Kaylee Williams, Mary Grace Bitting and Hanne te Velthuis set Milligan's pool record in the 200 meter medley relay at 2:03.78.
Te Velthuis set a pool record and hit a provisional standard in the 50 meter free (26.51) and won the 100 free with a provisional time of 59.42. Caleb Fry notched a provisional swim and took the meet title in the men's 50 free (23.89)
Bitting won the 400 meter individual medley with a provisional time of 5:22.13. Stephen Gilbert (4:49.62) and Jack Allen (4:51.19) recorded provisional marks in the 400 IM.
Gabby MacPherson won the 100 meter butterfly with a provisional standard (1:06.24) and added another national-qualifying time in the 200 free (2:12.05).
Andre Bazzana (57.16) and RJ Brumit (57.67) finished first and second with provisional times in the men's 100 fly. Paxton Smith won the 100 free with a provisional mark of 53.04.
Cates and Samantha van Vuure both notched provisional swims in the 100 yard backstroke. Cates touched the wall in 1:08.20 and van Vuure finished in 1:08.50.
Hudson Trammell notched a provisional effort in the 100 backstroke (59.90).
Riley Renaud and Peter Gilbert each won the 400 and 800 freestyles. Gilbert (4:13.54) and Jacob Miller (4:13.89) recorded provisional marks in the 400 free.
Williams took the meet title in the 100 breast with a provisional time of 1:17.97. Ben Hawkins also took a win in 100 breast in 1:05.13, a provisional mark.
Fry, Bazzana, Miller and Smith combined to win the 200 free relay with a pool record time of 1:34.00 to close out the meet.
Milligan travels to NAIA contender Cumberlands on Jan. 20.
