Swimming competes at Lenoir-Rhyne in fall finale
HICKORY, N.C. (December 8, 2023) – The Milligan University swim teams competed at Lenoir-Rhyne for the Buffs’ final meet of the semester against the Bears and UNC Pembroke on Friday afternoon.
HICKORY, N.C. (December 8, 2023) – The Milligan University swim teams competed at Lenoir-Rhyne for the Buffs' final meet of the semester against the Bears and UNC Pembroke on Friday afternoon.
The Buffs finished first in the men's dual meet against LR. In the women's standings, Milligan finished second behind UNCP and ahead of the Bears.
Hanne te Velthuis notched a pair of provisional swims and meet titles in the 50-yard freestyle (24.41) and 200 free (1:57.26).
Caleb Fry won the 100-yard breaststroke (58.47) and the 100 free (47.53) and hit the provisional standard in both events. Ben Hawkins (59.08) and Riley Gregor (59.71) both posted provisional swims in the 100 breast.
Samantha van Vuure won the 200-yard backstroke with a provisional time of 2:07.80.
Stephen Gilbert took the meet title and met the provisional standard in the 200 free in 1:46.42. Hudson Trammell won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.72, a provisional standard. RJ Brumit took first with a provisional swim in the 100 back (51.98) and added another national swim in the 100 fly (51.76).
Paxton Smith added another win and provisional mark in the 50 free (20.99), the 200 back (1:56.41) and hit a provisional standard as a relay leadoff in the 100 back (52.07).
Mary Grace Bitting notched two provisional efforts in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.23) and the 200 free (2:01.66).
Gabby MacPherson and Suzy Aguirre both hit the provisional standard in the 200 fly. MacPherson clocked in at 2:17.23 and Aguirre in 2:17.45.
Jacob Miller finished first in the 500 free in 4:54.11.
The Buffs won the men's 400 medley relay in 3:30.24.
The Buffs are sending a select group to the CSCAA Open Water Nationals on Dec. 17
