MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 21, 2022) – The Milligan University swim teams claimed both men's and women's Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) championships and reeled in 41 total All-AAC swimmers based on their performance at the conference championships Feb. 10-12.
The Buffs won 27 of 36 total AAC championships awarded at the championship meet. Milligan's No. 5 men won 13 total titles (eight individual, five relay) to repeat as AAC champs. The No. 6 women's swim team took 14 titles (10 individual, four relays) and won their first-ever AAC title. Milligan became the second team ever to sweep both men's and women's AAC championships in the same season, joining Wheeling in 2014.
"It was as good of a meet as we could have asked for, even with around a third of our team not rested," said head coach Spencer Scarth. "Our team has stepped up all season long, and while we're not quite done yet, our coaching staff is very proud of all the accomplishments they have made."
Head coach Spencer Scarth repeated as the AAC Men's Coach of the Year and freshman Andre Bazzana and sophomore Gabby MacPherson were honored with AAC Swimmer of the Meet honors.
Milligan set nine AAC Championship records (four individual, five relay) and 12 school records (six women's, six men's) at the meet.
The Buffs will send seven men's swimmers and seven women's swimmers to the NAIA National Championships in Columbus, Ga. next week.
