Five Milligan swimmers compete in CSCAA Collegiate Open Water Championships
LAWRENCE, Kan. (September 17, 2021) – Five Milligan University swimmers made the trip to Lone Star Lake in Kansas to compete in the CSCAA Collegiate Open Water Championships on Friday morning.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (September 17, 2021) – Five Milligan University swimmers made the trip to Lone Star Lake in Kansas to compete in the 2021 CSCAA Collegiate Open Water Championships on Friday morning.
The championships featured 98 total individuals participants from the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA with qualifying distance times. Milligan was the only NAIA institution to compete in the championship event. Cross country scoring was used to determine team scores and team finishes for schools with at least three competitors.
Gabby MacPherson swam in the women's race while Stephen Gilbert, Ben Hawkins, Ethan McCosh and Andre Semensato represented the Buffs on the men's side.
MacPherson completed the 5k in 1:10.36.5 to finish 49th overall. Purdue's Kate Beavon took first at 1:03.09.6 while Nebraska took home the team title with a team score of 17.
Milligan's men had enough competitors to post a team score of 61 to finish seventh overall. Northern Michigan took home the team title with three of the top eight finishers and a team score of 15. Northern Michigan's Zach Ondrej won the event by nearly four minutes at 56:10.6.
Semensato took 14th in his first-ever race for the Buffs, clocking in with a 5k time of 1:02.53.7.
McCosh and Hawkins finished 23rd and 24th with McCosh finishing in 1:06.03.7 and Hawkins in 1:06.53.8. Gilbert was 27th in 1:09.38.5.
Milligan swimming opens its 2021-22 season at the King Invitational on Oct. 1.
