11 swimmers named All-Americans by the CSCAA
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 1, 2021) – Eleven Milligan University swimmers were announced as All-Americans by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America (CSCAA) on Monday.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 1, 2021) – Eleven Milligan University swimmers were announced as All-Americans by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America (CSCAA) on Monday.
All-American selections were made based on verified performances in official competition submitted by individual coaches after the NAIA Championship meet was called off due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Buffs had seven women's swimmers and four men's swimmers earn All-American status
Gabby MacPherson captured three individual All-American nods in the 100 fly (58.79), 200 fly (2:08.80) and 500 freestyle (5:08.17). MacPherson ranked fourth in the nation in both the 200 butterfly and 500 free.
Tyler Cates secured All-American status in the 100 back (57.80) and 200 back (2:04.99) after posting top-five times nationally at the AAC championships in February.
Maggie Blazo joined Cates as an All-American in the 200 backstroke with a 2:08.93 season-best against Union.
Kaylee Williams earned All-American laurels in both breaststroke events. Williams ranked fifth (1:06.41) in the NAIA in the 100 breast and sixth in the 200 breast (2:25.06) in 2020-21.
The women's swim team had four relays achieve All-American applause.
The 800 free relay grouping of Blazo, Cates, MacPherson and Hannah Wheatley posted the number-three time in the country (7:50.43) at the AAC Championships.
Blazo, Cates, MacPherson and Rachel Scheffer combined for a 1:38.89 time in the 200 freestyle relay, good for fourth nationally.
The 400 medley relay squad of Blazo, Cates, MacPherson and Williams logged the fourth-fastest time in the NAIA at 3:59.12.
Blazo, Cates, MacPherson and Taylor Bartlett had the sixth-fastest time in the nation in the 400 free relay (3:37.64).
On the men's side, Stephen Gilbert led the way with All-American status in three individual events. Gilbert ranked second in the country in the 200 back (1:49.17) and 200 IM (1:49.63) and third overall in the 400 IM (3:58.98).
Ben Hawkins snagged All-American honors in the 500 free with a mark of 4:42.30 at AACs, good for eighth nationally.
Gilbert and Hawkins teamed with Aubin Dulin and Logan Garzonio to also secure All-Am certification in the 200 free relay (1:25.72), 400 free relay (3:10.80), 800 free relay (6:59.59), 200 medley relay (1:35.78) and 400 medley relay (3:27.75).
