Swim moves into lead at AAC Championships
Four more individual champions, four more relay champions and a trio of championship records helped the Milligan University No. 7 men and No. 9 women jump No. 4 Asbury and take the lead after day two of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 12, 2021) – Four more individual champions, four more relay champions and a trio of championship records helped the Milligan University No. 7 men and No. 9 women jump No. 4 Asbury and take the lead after day two of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
Milligan leads Asbury by 48.5 points on the men's side and by seven points on the women's side. Both teams hold a comfortable lead over third place heading into the final day of the championship meet on Saturday.
Milligan trailed Asbury by eight and a half points and 74 points, respectively, after day one, but the Buffaloes stormed ahead with eight more champions on Friday's session. It brought Milligan's total so far over two days to 13 AAC titles.
Freshman Stephen Gilbert swam one of the most notable races of the day, winning the 400 individual medley by nearly 15 seconds while posting the AAC record by over seven seconds. His time of 3:58.98 marked his second individual title of the meet and one of six Milligan records the Buffs set on the day.
Other individual champions for Milligan included Tyler Cates who set the Milligan and AAC championship records in the 100 backstroke at 57.80. Aubin Dulin and Kaylee Williams won the AAC title in the 100 breaststroke, Dulin winning in 57.89 and Williams winning in 1:06.41.
Milligan also snagged relays records in the 200 free and 400 medley on both the men's and women's sides.
Day three of the AAC meet is set for Saturday and will crown both team champions. For the complete list of Milligan's AAC titles, please see below.
