MARION, Ind. – The Milligan University men's soccer team's 2024 season came to an end on Saturday evening in Marion, Ind., as the No. 11-ranked Buffs were shut out by the host institution, No. 7-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University by a score of 3-0.
The scoring began quickly for the hosts, as the Wildcats tallied goal number one in just the fifth minute of the contest. From that point forward, it was actually a fairly tight battle for the remaining 40 minutes. Milligan had one great opportunity in the half, as Marco Lattanzi took a shot that drilled the IWU goalkeeper in the head from short range, but he was able to keep it out of the net. The score would remain 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, Indiana Wesleyan screamed ahead with another early goal in the 52nd minute to double their Buffs' deficit. After that, IWU would continue to enjoy much of the possession, ending up with their third and final goal in the 75th minute to reach the final 3-0 tally.
Simply put, Milligan had fewer opportunities in the battle, as they ended the day with a 13-6 disadvantage in the shot totals. Only one of the Buffaloes' shots on the night was on net, and the Wildcats took 10 shots on goal.
Adria Alles was tested on numerous occasions, doing a great job stopping seven of the shots that he faced. Unfortunately, the number of attempts by the Wildcats was just too overwhelming.
It is the end of another incredibly successful season for Milligan, having reached the Second Round of the NAIA National Championships with a chance to be among the final 16 teams at the final site. More impressive seasons are yet to come for Buffs men's soccer.
