MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The No. 2 seed Milligan University men's soccer team hosted the No.3 seed Bryan in the Semifinal round of AAC Tournament play. The Buffs were unable to capitalize on chances and were ultimately eliminated in a penalty shootout. The score finished 1-1 through extra time before the Buffs fell in the shootout, 4-3.
The match started with both teams coming out with high energy and looking to score early. As the game calmed down after a frantic first few minutes the Buffs began to impose their will with majority of possession in Bryan's half. The Buffs would outshoot the Lions 5-2, but no goals would be tallied.
The Buffs would start the second on their heels, conceding a goal just two minutes into the half to go down 1-0. The Buffs would then pile the pressure on the Lions before finding the equalizer through Elies Simo after his header from a Johnny Salgado corner kick. The redirection would find the twine, making it 1-1. The Buffs would not be able to find a winner in the remaining time or through extra time despite outshooting the Lions 10-3.
Milligan fell in the ensuing penalty shootout by a tally of 4-3. The Buffs outshot the Lions 18-7 for the game.
The squad now waits to learn their fate in the NAIA National Tournament selection show on Saturday Nov. 16 at 3 p.m., as they failed to earn an automatic bid to the national tournament by winning the conference regular-season or tournament championship.
