MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The No. 2-seeded Milligan University men's soccer team hosted the No. 7 seed St. Andrews Knights to kick off AAC tournament play in the Quarterfinal round. The Buffs were able to ward off the stingy Knights and advanced to the Semifinal round by a score of 1-0.
The Buffaloes started the match well controlling the early minutes. That would continue with Milligan capitalizing in the ninth minute of the battle on a Marco Lattanzi volley goal off a perfect assist from James Bakou. The Buffs were able to keep the Knights off the board, though they were outshot 7-2 in the first half. Adria Alles was forced into two saves in the first half for the hosting Buffaloes.
The second half would be a very cagey affair with SAU looking to get back into the match, while the Buffs looked to build on their lead. SAU would come close in the second with multiple efforts on goal including a shot that bounced off the crossbar. The Buffs would go on to seal the victory and clean sheet for Adria Alles and take the 1-0 victory.
Lattanzi led the way for Buffs with three shots for the game, including the game-winning goal. He was also responsible for the only two shots on frame for the Buffaloes in the bout.
The Buffs are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 5, as they will play No. 3-seeded Bryan in the AAC Tournament Semifinal round. The game will be played at Anglin Field. The start time of the battle is still to be decided.
