Undefeated Season Continues for No. 11 Milligan Men's Soccer against Johnson
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – On Sunday evening, the No. 11-ranked Milligan University men's soccer team did battle with the Johnson University Royals at Kermit Tipton Stadium on the campus of Science Hill High School in Johnson City due to unplayable field conditions at Anglin Field. The change of venue did not seem to affect the Buffs, as they concocted a 3-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) shutout to stay unbeaten on the season.
Milligan now moves to 5-0-3 on the campaign and 3-0-2 within the AAC.
From the word go, the Buffaloes were in control of the tilt, grabbing their first goal in the fifth minute of the battle. Jett Carter came away with the header tally on a cross from Albert Montragull. In the 19th minute, Johnny Salgado scored his first goal of the season on a volley finish from a Carter header flick in front of the net. To close out the half with just over a minute left, Marco Lattanzi converted his eighth goal of the campaign on a beautiful cross by Kai Slinn to make it 3-0 at the break. Milligan took 12 shots in the first half with six being on goal, while Johnson did not record a single shot.
The second half was also dominated by the Buffaloes, yet was not as prolific, as neither squad scored a goal in the half. The Buffs had six shots in the half and the Royals once again failed to take a shot.
Seven different Buffaloes took shots that ended on goal, as the obvious three are Carter, Salgado and Lattanzi. The remaining four shots on frame came off the boots of James Bakou, Simen Haraldstad, Justin Madejski and Slinn.
Adria Alles obtained his second win of the season and improved his record in net to 2-0-0 on the year with the win, though he did not face a shot in the bout.
Next up on the slate for Milligan is a road battle at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C. on Oct. 2 at 12 p.m., as the Buffs try to remain unbeaten on the season.
