MILLIGAN, Tenn. – Coming off an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) draw last week, the No. 4-ranked Milligan University Buffaloes returned to the win column against Columbia International University on Saturday at Anglin Field. After 43 minutes, the Buffaloes offense blasted off, scoring five goals in 47 minutes of play to notch a 5-0 shutout of the Rams.
In the opening half, Milligan spent much of the period with opportunities to break the tie, launching a total of six shots. One of those would finish as a goal for Milligan, as Jett Carter converted on a perfectly played ball ahead of him by Boikaego Mbaakanyi in the 44th minute, just before the intermission.
The floodgates opened for the Buffs in the second half, as Kai Slinn started the party with a goal assisted by Alex Panner in the 53rd minute, before Panner added one of his own in the 54th on a setup by Unai Cruz. Slinn netted a brace in the 68th minute off an assist by Carter to make it 4-0, and then Carter achieved his brace on an 83rd-minute tally.
Milligan's nine shots on goal out of 15 total attempts equaled five goals, as the remaining shots on net came off the boots of Alexsander Krogh (2), Unai Cruz and Olly Green.
Ludvig Wille faced only one shot on net in the contest and turned it away to move his season record to 3-0-2.
The season continues for Milligan on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., as the Buffs look forward to continuing their offensive explosion.
