ASHEVILLE, N.C. — On Saturday, the No. 2-ranked Milligan University men's soccer squad went on the road to NCAA Division III Warren Wilson College in Asheville at Hank Steinbrechler Sports Complex. After the full 90 minutes of play, it was the Buffaloes who reigned supreme in a 9-0 shellacking.
The Buffs scored five goals in the opening half and four more in the second to run away with the triumph. Overall, the Buffs took 32 shots in the bout, while holding the Owls to none for the entire game.
In the 9th minute, Albert Montragull scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Simen Haraldstad to give Milligan an early lead. Alex Spanner would join the goal-scorer's list with a tally in the 17th minute, assisted by Montragull, to make it 2-0. Jett Carter notched his first goal in the 25th minute on a setup by Panner to make it 3-0, before Marco Lattanzi became the first Buffaloes newcomer to tally a goal in the 34th minute, set up by Alexsander Krogh.The final goal of the first half came from Kai Slinn on another Panner assist in the 39th minute.
The second half consisted of a Clay Gallant goal in the 61st minute on an assist from freshman Byron Dagnall to start things. Then, Lattanzi's second goal of the match was scored in the 69th minute off of a pass from Reshano Hasselbank. Lattanzi would notch a hat trick in the 74th minute with help from Boikaego Mbaakanyi. Finally, Olly Green was the last of the Buffs to score, being assisted by Gallant to finish off the 9-0 drubbing.
With the victory, the Buffaloes head to 1-0-0 on the year and will continue their quest on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Anglin Field against NCAA Division II foe, King University.
