Men’s Soccer ties No. 23 Tennessee Wesleyan 2-2
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 21, 2023) – The Milligan University men’s soccer team battled back to earn a 2-2 draw against No. 23 Tennessee Wesleyan on senior night at Anglin Field on Saturday.

The Buffs move to 11-2-3 on the season as TWU sits at 8-2-5. Both teams are 8-0-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Milligan extends its unbeaten streak to 12-straight games.
The Buffs took a 1-0 lead with a goal off a set piece in the 18th minute. Inaki Moreno served a free kick into the box with a high cross, it was headed up by Elies Simo and put in by Santigao Corral to give the Buffs an early 1-0 edge.
TWU responded exactly one minute later as the Bulldogs were fouled inside the 18-yard box and converted a kick from the penalty spot to tie the match at one.
Jett Carter nearly gave the Buffs the lead in the 29th minute as he tracked down a Moreno cross just outside of the six-yard box but had his attempt parried away by the TWU keeper and Milligan could not track down the rebound.
The game went to the half tied at one. Milligan had a 5-2 edge in shots (3-2 SOG) at the halftime break.
Adria Alless made a save on a close-range header in the first scoring opportunity of the second half at the 50th minute.
TWU took the lead in the 54th with a closer-range header on a looping cross to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Boikaego Mbaakanyi had a pair of shots saved in the 54th and 60th minutes, the second of which was a looping shot toward the top-right corner that was tipped over the goal. Moreno had an attempt roll just right in the 70th minute.
Alex Panner had an attempt from the six-yard box deflected away by the TWU keeper in the 73rd.
Carter headed in an equalizer in the 78th minute after Inaki Moreno put a looping ball forward, drawing the TWU keeper off his line and Carter headed in the game-tyin goal.
The Buffs had a pair of corner kicks in the last minute but were unable to yield a goal.
Milligan outshot TWU 13-7 on the night (9-5 SOG). The Buffs recoded seven of the eight corner kicks in the game.
Milligan hosts Union on Wednesday.
