Men’s Soccer downs Bluefield 4-0

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 27, 2023) – The Milligan University men's soccer team defeated Bluefield 4-0 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest at Anglin Field on Wednesday evening.

The Buffs move to 7-2-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in AAC play at 4-0-1. Bluefield falls to 0-8, 0-6 AAC.

Milligan controlled possession for the opening half hour of action but were unable to find the back of the net with their first nine shots.

On the Buffs 10th corner kick of the contest, Inaki Moreno found Elies Simo who headed in his second goal of the season to give Milligan a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

Another header put the Buffs ahead 2-0 as James Bakou sent a looping cross into the box and Jett Carter cashed in with a leaping header in the 39th minute.

Milligan outshot Bluefield 13-0 in the first half and carried the two-goal edge into the second half.

Santiago Corral scored his fifth goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Inaki Moreno inserted a corner kick which Corral headed toward the goal. Bluefield's keeper denied the shot but Corral followed his shot and fired in the Buffs' third goal of the day.

Moreno cashed the Buffs' fourth goal of the day in the 73rd minute as Kai Slinn forwarded a pass up the right side to Cater. Carter centered to Moreno who tucked a shot inside the left post for his sixth goal of the year.

The game was called due to lightning with 5:20 left in regulation.

The Buffs outshot Bluefield 25-4 for the contest and owned a 19-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Milligan travels to Johnson on Saturday evening.
