Men’s Soccer rolls to 5-1 victory over Carolina
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (August 30, 2023) – The Milligan University men’s soccer team scored three first half goals on its way to a 5-1 win over Carolina at Anglin Field on Wednesday evening.

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (August 30, 2023) – The Milligan University men's soccer team scored three first half goals on its way to a 5-1 win over Carolina at Anglin Field on Wednesday evening.
The Buffs move to 2-1 on the season while Carolina (2-1) suffered its first defeat.
Alex Panner nearly but the Buffs ahead in the 11th minute by running on to a second ball in the penalty area from Ethan Bishop, but his volley around the keeper went wide left.
The Buffs earned a penalty kick following a corner kick in the 16th minute. Inaki Moreno cashed the shot from the penalty spot to put the Buffs ahead 1-0.
After a quick corner kick in the 19th minute, Moreno sent a cross into the box and Santiago Corral headed in his second goal of the year to push the Buffs lead to 2-0.
Greg Anderson fired a pair of shot on frame in the 24th and 25th minutes with both being stopped by acrobatic saves. He broke through in the 27th minute, running on to a ball by James Bakou and slotting past the keeper to give Milligan a 3-0 edge.
The Bruins made a push in the final minute with a free kick and corner kick but were unable to put a shot on frame.
Hayden Grubb stole a pass deep in Carolina territory and was fouled in the penalty area. Moreno cashed his second PK of the game to push the score to 4-0 in the 51st minute.
Moreno connected with Boikaego Mbaakanyi in the 53rd minute for the Buffs' fifth goal. Moreno's lead pass was popped over the charging keeper by Mbaakanyi and volleyed into the back of the net.
Carolina found a goal off a redirection of a free kick to make it a 5-1 game in the 64th minute.
The Buffs outshot Carolina 21-4 and had a 12-3 edge in shots on goal. Moreno finished with two goals and two assists.
Milligan hosts UT Southern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
