Men’s Soccer battles to 1-1 draw against Reinhardt

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 22, 2022) – The Milligan University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Reinhardt on Saturday evening at Anglin Field.
The Buffs join a logjam at the top of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standings with a 7-2-5 record and 7-1-3 AAC mark. Reinhardt moves to 7-4-4, 6-1-4 AAC. Five teams have seven conference wins with various numbers of losses and ties. Of teams that have played 11 games, Milligan has the top winning percentage (.773).
Milligan established a 1-0 lead in the game's first five minutes. Inaki Moreno served an early corner in front of the goal and Elies Simo headed in his seventh goal of the season.
The Buffs were the aggressors in the early going as Milligan recorded four corners and 10 shots before Reinhardt recorded its first shot attempt in the 31st minute.
The Eagles slowed the game down in the middle portion of the first half and drew a pair of free kicks from just beyond Milligan's 18-yard box. The Buffs had several close calls on adding a second goal as Greg Anderson, Edward Burgos and Albert Montragull had attempts either saved or miss the frame by a slim margin.
The Buffs went into the half with a 1-0 lead and a 15-1 advantage in shots (8-0 SOG).
Reinhardt came out strong in the second half and tied the game at one in the 53rd minute as the Eagles had a shot off a corner kick saved but pounced on the rebound to make it a 1-1 game.
The Eagles blasted a pair of good looks on frame but Ludvig Wille recorded a pair of stops to keep the score tied in the 60th and 62nd minutes.
Hayden Grubb thwarted a Reinhardt free kick in the final 10 minutes as he leapt up to block the kick in a one-man wall.
Following a red card on Reinhardt in the 85th minute, Asa Blake had a point-blank attempt denied and the rebound trickled harmlessly away.
The Buffs had several successful crosses in the final minutes but were unable to find a game-winner as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
Milligan outshot Reinhardt 20-9 with an 11-5 edge in shots on goal. The Buffs recorded 10 corners compared to two by the Eagles.
Milligan travels to Bluefield on Thursday.
