Men’s Soccer runs unbeaten streak to eight games with 13-0 victory over Columbia (SC)
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 15, 2022) – The Milligan University men’s soccer team stormed to a 13-0 victory over Columbia (S.C.) on Saturday evening at Anglin Field. It extended the Buffs’ unbeaten streak to eight games.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 15, 2022) – The Milligan University men's soccer team stormed to a 13-0 victory over Columbia (S.C.) on Saturday evening at Anglin Field. It extended the Buffs' unbeaten streak to eight games.
The game served as the first-ever Greene Game on campus in conjunction with Carter County Bank and Bank of Tennessee. Milligan's unbeaten streak grew to eight games as the Buffs continues its climb in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standings. The Buffs move to 6-2-4 overall and 6-1-2 in AAC. With two weeks to play, the Buffs are tied for second in the standings with Reinhardt.
After several early opportunities, Milligan cashed in for the game's first goal in the 22nd minute. Albert Montragull sent a ball up field into the penalty area to a streaking Inaki Morano on the left side. Moreno centered to Mate Lengyel who punched in the first goal of the day.
In the 27th minute, Moreno connected with Alexsander Krogh for his first goal of the season. Three minutes later, Hayden Grubb found Edward Burgos, who put in his third goal of the year. In the 33rd minute, Asa Blake blasted a shot beyond the penalty area inside the right post for his fifth goal of 2022.
At the halftime break, Milligan owned a 4-0 lead, an 11-1 edge in shots a 10-0 margin in shots on goal.
Krogh headed in his second goal of the evening off a header from a long throw-in by Ethan Bishop. Bishop then scored in the 48th minute after intercepting a pass deep in Columbia territory and firing in his second goal of the season. Greg Anderson joined the fun I the 52nd minute with his sixth goal of the season, off a feed from Lengyel.
Moreno joined the scoring frenzy in eth 61st minute with a leaping volley off a cross from Lengyel. Blake recorded his second goal of the game in the 66th. Jett Carter tallied a score in the 70th minute. Carter chased down a back pass by Columbia and found Burgos for his second goal of the night. Elies Simo scored after a corner kick by Bracken Burns in the 85th. Harper Jennings scored his first collegiate goal off a cross by Zander brown in the final minutes.
The Buffs totaled 36 shots on the night and 14 corners.
Milligan heads to St. Andrews for a key AAC matchup Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
